Marie Legatt helps to organize the event each year to remind people of the true reason for All Hallow’s Eve, the vigil for the Solemnity of All Saints, which is a Holy Day of Obligation for Catholics.
“Every year on October 31 and November 1, we celebrate All Saints, the beautiful world of the souls who have led so many people to do great things in their personal lives and for the greater glory of God,” Marie says. “God chose these saints to guide us, through their example and word to a better life on earth and eternity in the kingdom of heaven.”
Most secular celebrations of Halloween have nothing to do with the saints and holiness. As an alternative for families with children, the All Saints vigil Mass at St. Albert will begin with a Saints Procession at 5:30 PM. Children are invited to dress as saints or biblical characters and process in for Mass. Following the liturgy, the celebration will take place at the parish center, with pizza, candy bags, drawings, games, and prizes (all free!), as well as a Walk of Our Future Saints at the end.
“People often question why our All Saints celebration is on the eve of All Saints rather than the day itself. All Saints Day is a solemnity and should be observed with our full devotion and attention to the saints on the actual day.
"Thank you to our sponsors, the KCs and Catholic United Financial, as well as the parishes of St. Albert and St. Michael for their support of this event over the past 20 years”
