Christians are sometimes critical of church leaders for not being more directive about elections, parties, and candidates. But the act of choosing for ourselves, and the effort required to form our consciences and make a good choice, are critically important, both to society and to our souls.
There can be a certain temptation toward thinking that the Rosary is just some pious practice which can be weighed just as heavily (or perhaps lightly) as any other such practice, like reciting certain novenas, having devotions to particular Saints, and the liike. Yet, there is a strong recognition by the Church that the Rosary stands above other devotions.
Jesus turns the scholar’s question “Who is my neighbor?” on its head, putting the duty of being a neighbor on the scholar himself. Love of neighbor is an action we undertake as faithful disciples of God, not something begged by another person because of proximity, blood, or belief.
This year in Family of Faith, through the Great Adventure series created by Jeff Cavins, we are exclusively focusing on the story of the Bible. Director of Evangelization and Faith Formation Bob Swift is convinced that coming into a deeper understanding of God’s word is vital and necessary for all disciples of Jesus Christ.
